Artist Statement

Jewelry is not simply an accessory; it is a metaphor for language, art, belief and a reflection of a state of mind. The story behind my jewelry is not only the individual story of each piece, but also the larger story that lies within the realm of following my dreams. I have a passion to travel and experience other cultures, which strongly influences my work. I am interested in forms and how they relate to the space around them, focusing on the negative space created by the forms themselves. My goal is to find harmony between structure, practicality, and design while still creating pieces that inspire and bring gratification to the wearer. Each piece I create is one of a kind and personally hand crafted. My hope is to convey my passion through my designs and pass that excitement on to the wearer.

Bio

I have always had a desire to design whether it was in engineering or fine arts. As a child I wanted to be a comic artist and would spend hours drawing cartoons of anyone around. I attended the University of Wisconsin Madison to pursue a degree in engineering and physics and eventually found myself involved in the arts. I graduated in December 2004 with a degree in graphic design and an emphasis in art metals. I have a broad interest in the arts, but my concentration has always centered on functional and wearable art. I began making jewelry as inexpensive gifts for people and after enough positive feedback I decided to sign up for a local fair to market my creations. The excitement that I felt being able to market my own designs has pushed me to keep pursuing my dream. Tasha Rae Designs LLC was established just this year and hopefully new designs will be available for years to come.
